About Us
The Carmelite Book Service was set up as a world-wide mail order service in 1984, (on-line since 1997), to provide all books in print on Carmelite Spirituality to the whole family of Carmel. The aim was to stock all titles so as to be able to supply them without delay. This proved to be a great service to customers, and so the book service has grown and now has over one thousand six hundred titles in stock. These are not only books on Carmelite Spirituality but also the Christian classics, books on the English Spiritual tradition, Celtic Spirituality, Eastern Spirituality and Contemporary Spirituality.
The Book Service also supplies a wide range of pamphlets, booklets, audio cassettes, videos, CD's, DVD's and religious objects which are set out in a separate catalogue.
The Book Service is located within the Carmelite Priory grounds at Oxford, where there is also a Prayer & Retreat Centre. It is owned, maintained and managed by the Order. We are an independent bookshop and we have no branches or links with any other bookshops. Our Bookshop is normally open to visitors Monday - Friday 9.00am - 3.00pm.
Our catalogue is sourced from worldwide suppliers for their specialist content, therefore price variations may occur due to supplier costs, currency fluctuations and customs/tax charges.
The Teresian Press is our in-house publishing organisation which publish titles with the aim to popularise and promote Carmelite spirituality and prayer.

Making A Purchase
Making a purchase could not be easier. Just browse our store, and add any items that you wish to buy into the shopping cart. After you have finished your selection, click on 'Checkout' and you will be asked for a few details that we need to be able to complete the order.
Our prices are in British Pounds & US Dollars but we also accept the equivalent in Euro cheques drawn on an Irish bank, or International Bank Drafts/Money Orders. We accept most major credit/debit cards, if you are shopping from anywhere other than the UK, place your order and your credit card company will convert the transaction to your own currency. You may send your credit card information via phone, fax, mail or via our on-line bookstore.
We do not accept American Express or Diners Club.
We accept PayPal payments sent to priory@carmelite.org.uk
We sell and accept BOOK TOKENS.
Shipping And Handling
All orders are usually dispatched 2nd class mail in the UK and Royal Mail Airmail to other countries. Please allow about four weeks for delivery to such places as the USA and Australia.
Invoices over £50 are carriage free UK mainland.
Delivery Schedule
We will usually despatch your order within 24 hours.
You will normally receive your order within 5 working days. International orders are generally received in under 28 days.
Back Orders
If your ordered item is not in stock, we will inform you and back order it for you.
Backordered items are not charged until they are shipped.
Tax Charges
All book orders are currently VAT free, postage & other items include VAT at the current rate of 20%.
Credit Card Security
When the order is placed at our website, credit card numbers are encrypted using 128 bit encryption. They are only decrypted after they reach our computer. They are not held in clear text on any web site.

You may pay by credit/debit card with order, or credit/debit card, cheque. Postal Order or Bank Draft on receipt of invoice.
